Sustainable and resource-saving business management is a long-term success factor and innovation driver for us. For this reason, we are committed to the health and safety of our employees and ensuring the protection of our environment. This is about creating the right balance between people, environment and company interests.

Sustainability at JULABO

JULABO acts in a future-oriented and therefore ecological manner. This is already visible on the roofs of our headquarters in Seelbach – since the end of 2007, we have been using our photovoltaic system to produce electricity that is fed into the grid. All consumers of this electricity save a total of 62 tons of CO2 per year. JULABO itself obtains 100% of its electrical energy from ecological sources.

JULABO is gradually renewing its car fleet – with electric or hybrid vehicles. In addition, 14 charging stations for electric vehicles have so far been put into operation. We have many exercise enthusiasts among our workforce taking part in our Jobrad program and thus reducing their personal CO2 emissions. Even the transportation of our products takes ecological aspects into account, both during packaging and during the subsequent shipping process.

A significant part of our environmental impact naturally arises during the production of our products. This is where we use modern and environmentally-friendly production processes and technologies to minimize our ecological footprint. Other investments and procurement are assessed for their environmental impact. We work continuously to improve our resource efficiency. In addition to production materials, this also applies to the economical use of natural resources such as water.

Since 2021, we have been awarded a bronze medal in the EcoVadis sustainability rating. This not only recognizes our environmental sustainability, but also our performance in the areas of labor and human rights, as well as ethics.

F-Gas Regulation

Since 2015 the current EU regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases applies. This includes the gradual reduction of quantities of partly fluorinated hydrocarbons available on the market until 2030.

The F-Gas Regulation serves for the control of systems, which contain specific greenhouse-inducing hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) as a refrigerant. The regulation sets out that systems, for example air-conditioning systems and cooling devices as well as fire extinguishers, must be inspected for leak tightness with regard to certain gases at regular intervals by certified personnel, then logged. For these F-gases the environmental compatibility is determined based on the ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and the GWP (Global Warming Potential).

From 2020 the next stage of the F-Gas Regulation applies. Temperature control instruments are now classified as stationary refrigeration systems and may have a GWP of 2500 maximum. This means new requirements in terms of the inspection and documentation obligation. Currently all JULABO devices meet the directives of the F-Gas Regulation and actively contribute to future-proof temperature control.

Responsibility

Enthusiasm and authenticity are fundamental pillars of the JULABO corporate values, in addition to performance. In our day-to-day work, authenticity means that we act responsibly, we comply with statutory provisions and regulations and that we take decisive measures to correct any violation of laws and internal guidelines.
